Mulberry House

The land and building on the site suffered from years of neglect and used by squatters and fly tipping of rubbish so our client looked to return this waste land to good use by converting into a unique and modern family home.

An ecological approach to the project was taken with emphasis on renewable energy, recycling and the introduction of a green sedum roof. It would have been more cost effective to have cleared the site and taken down the existing building but it was felt appropriate to ‘recycle’ the existing building and extend from this.

As you can see from the before and after pictures the transformation is quite dramatic.  The design of the building emerged from the existing structure, site requirements and has a Modernist influence with clean and simple lines.  The precise architectural aluminium windows, doors and wall copings sit well with the flat clean render walls set over a dark blue/black brick plinth.

External materials were carefully selected offering a long lasting and low maintenance finish.  We always recommend the fibre mesh re-enforced render systems as they offer a crack resistant surface that will stay looking good for years to come. The green sedum roof attracts wildlife and on this site surface water drainage could not be used so the living roof also helps dispose large quantities of rainwater naturally.  Solar panels link to the hot water and combined with high levels of insulation help reduce the carbon emissions year on year.

We wish the new home owners well with their new home and are sure they will enjoy it for years to come.
